I did this painting from
memory of my dad when
he smoked. He lost some
of his nose and cheek to
skin cancer. The big C
overwhelmed him and
he died in 1972. This
piece took me all month
to get up the courage to
finish it today.
Romancing The Smoke is John Aaron's blog about his lifelong battle to quit smoking (which he did more than nine years ago) and the stories, history and news in the absurd world of Tobacco and Nicotine. 42 years ago today...
Dad lost out to lung
cancer on this day in
1972...he was 56...
hasn't been a day gone
by that I don't wish I
could be talking to him...

Remembering Dad this weekend....
Dad loved to have a good time.
A little too good for his own good.
He smoked two packs a day, then
finally quit when he was 53. Liver,
Lung and Pancreatic cancer still
took him away three years later.
If you smoke, bail on this habit
before it's too late. Wish your
father a Happy Father's Day.
I wish I could.
