Fashion's Elite Trying to Make Smoking Cool Again...

No thanks to fashion for encouraging
the "Who Cares?" attitude towards
smoking when we've fought so hard
to shove cigarettes out of the public eye.
These spoiled little "model girls" are
unfortunate role models and this
resurrection of "smoking is cool" is ugly
and irresponsible. Dangerously
ignorant behavior they're flaunting.
Anything for publicity.
They know how their actions affect people.
All for more followers in Instagram?
Seriously? They're undoing years of work
so many have done to stop Big Tobacco.
Is the Industry offering them payola to undue the truth?
They need to quit this bullshit and apologize.
Nicoteenagers.

Rt.com: Russian activists want graphic warnings on cigarette packs to be changed to positive messages

Russian social activists are
lobbying heavily to replace
gruesome graphic warnings
on cigarette packs with
positive reinforcement
messages of encouragement.
The Russian Social Initiative
insists that positive messaging
will aid the motivation to quit.
Meanwhile, the Russian Health
Ministry is preparing an even
more unsettling collection of
visual warnings for packaging,
including corpses killed by fires
in their own apartments. While
at least 77 other countries
including Australia and
Uruguay have or will soon have
graphic health warnings, Russia
seems to be escalating the
visual morbidity, "all the
better to impact and convince
smokers to quit."
While it is not the usual practice
of RTS to post visual scare
tactics, Russia has really gone
to great lengths to stub out the
habit of nicotine addiction.

New Rollers of the Nicotine Age: Millennials and Smoking

I recently conducted
a survey of Millennial
smokers to discuss
their theories of tobacco
and how and why they
use it. Their fierce
enthusiasm is truly
Big Tobacco's long
awaited wet dream.

While an increasing

number of Millennials
are choosing to go smoke
free; this post applauds
those who have turned
away from nicotine, or
just plain turned it down.

Yet I couldn't help
but notice that
amongst those who
are smokers...

-Not once did they use
the terms "cigarette",
"smoke", "smoking",
or "nicotine" or say
"I should quit."

-None of them admitted
to being addicted. Tobacco
was mentioned in reference
to it being medicine.

-They invoked the neo-
Native American relation-
ship to tobacco, insisting
that their usage was ritual-
based, honorable and
visionary.

-"Do you want to share
some tobacco?" has
replaced the phrase,
"Let's go have a cigarette..."

-Most weren't aware of
the effect of their 2nd Hand
Smoke on non smokers...
This group of smokers had
disconnected themselves
from the truth about
nicotine addiction. It was
here I first heard the phrase,
"American Spirits advocate
the healthy use of tobacco"
as part of the alternative
lifestyle of the Enlightened...

Witnessing smokers claim
to being highly evolved
humans aware of other
consciousnesses,
meditative practices and
skill sets making them
shamans amongst their
"tribe"...made no sense...
Because they continued
to smoke...

When someone smokes,
they automatically fall off
the enlightened list. Period.
There are no "mulligans"
with nicotine addiction.
There is nothing enlight-
ening about smoking
except for the realization
that it will kill you. Tobacco
is an anti-enlightenment drug.
Smoking is, was, and will
always be lame. Once one
allows themselves that
revelation and that smoke
free is the way, then by
quitting, one can once
again embark on the Path
to Enlightenment...
...after all, Buddha never smoked...

The Health Site: Indian Union Health Minister encourages Value Added Tax to discourage smoking youth

Countries committed to reducing
smoking are employing what is
called a Value Added Tax (VAT)
to increase the price of a tobacco
product to make it less accessible
to youth…India is trying to follow
Australia's lead as the former sees
its male smoking rate increase
dramatically over the last ten years…

That's not funny, that's tobacco...

I have been asked to speak this
coming week at the Tobacco
Cessation program at Cottage
Hospital in Santa Barbara about
my take on quitting smoking.
I will sharing some experiences
witha group of folks doing their
best to become smoke free. I
decided that I will encourage them
through the absurdity of tobacco.

Cover Me I'm Changing Brands-The Nicotine Bait and Switch..

E cigarettes are taking the hit for
the real tobacco smoking habit.

Tech swaggered into the saloon,
and offered EVERYONE a puff.
They never looked back, except
to appropriate the old fashioned
macho movie star marketing to
get everyone into the conversation.
e cigs are glad to stand in for the
real actor because it's all about
looking cool rather than doing
something cool.

At its best, an e cig takes a real
cigarette temporarily out of a
smokers hand. But not for long.

e cigarettes took off, at a time
when the efforts to curtail
smoking was stronger than ever
before. Through plain packaging,
graphic advertising, public
smoking bans, sundry laws
and increasing tobacco taxes,
these tools have created smoker
as pariah in the western world.

What was the Tobacco Industry
to do?

Electronic cigarettes somehow seem
like an answer to Tobacco's prayer.
A new nicotine dispensing device.
Keep feeding them nicotine a new
way, but keep the gesture in place.

Milennials can't get enough of
technology, and e cigarettes, like
their Droid or IPhone, are their
very own hand held Ferraris,
with custom colors, shapes and
special effects. The vaping industry
has developed the personal e cig to
reel in "the hip". It's so compelling,
it's converting people to the gesture,
who never smoked, but thought it
looked cool. The psychology of
addiction keeps the fire in place,
only this time, eliminated the
smoke.

But the fact is that so many
"vapesters" flaunted their public use,
e cigs also received sweeping bans
of their use similar to tobacco bans.
But "vape lounges" proliferate.

While e cigarettes hog the spotlight,
Marlboro Country, is preying on
youthful dreams with the emphasis
on being hip. Philip Morris is running
a hipper than thou campaign in Europe.

The Industry is also bearing down
on Indonesia. They're trying to get
everyone coming and going...

E cigs are just the delivery system
for the 21st century.

I'm glad I'm not hip anymore.
